Russ Scanlan proudly served the Ebensburg community
from 1948 until his death on August 18, 2009. He was a life member with over
60 years of dedicated service. Russ passed on his knowledge and experiences to
his children Gary and Jack, and grandchildren Tim, Kate, John Paul, Sarah, and
Andrew... all members at our station.
Russ held positions with the fire company as Second Assistant Chief (11years),
Fire Chief (14 years), and Trustee (5 years). He also served on the Ebensburg
Area Ambulance Association Board for 36 years.
Russ was instrumental in restoring the 1926 American LaFrance Engine that is
well known across Pennsylvania. At one time or another, Russ was involved
with just about every committee we have at the Dauntless Fire Company. He was
also a leader in fire company training for many years.
As former owner and founder of the family business, Scanlan Electric, Russ
brought over 50 years of professional experience in the electrical industry.
He was called upon many times by the fire company for his knowledge and advice.
He also enjoyed going to camp and spending time with his friends and family.
Through his many years of service, Russ was supported by his wife Betty, who
was an operators/dispatchers for the fire company on the 472-7777 line
for approximately 25 years.
We thank Russ for his many years of service to the
community and to the Dauntless Fire Company. His memory and passion will live
on in all of us.
