John Hawksworth Jr. has been proudly serving since 1976. Otherwise known as "Hawk", he is a second-generation life member of the Dauntless Fire Company, following in the foot steps of his father John Sr. He now passes on his knowledge and experiences to his son Mike, who is now a career firefighter with the Altoona City Fire Department.


John has been involved with many committees through the years. Those include: Truck Committee, Historical Committee (Chairman), Banquet Committee, Junior Firefighter Committee, Resolution Committee, Training Committee, 2nd Alarm Committee, and County Certification Committee.
Hawk holds certifications as: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Fire officer I, Fire officer II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Instructor II, Incident Safety Officer, BVR-T, EMT-B, and Hazmat Operations. In addition to these certifications, Hawk has many hours of training in Structural Burn, Firefighter Survival, Vehicle Rescue, Elevator Rescue, S.C.B.A., Hazmat Operations, E.V.O.C., Pumps I, Pumps II, Engine Company Operations, Truck Company Operations, Snorkel Operations, Large Diameter Hose, Rural Water Movement, Ropes, and Confined Space Rescue.

John is supported in his efforts by his wife Deb, and daughter Lisa.


He is also an active Pennsylvania State Fire Instructor and was nominated for Instructor of the year in 2000.


John was a former Truck Captain and is currently serving as the Assistant Fire Chief since 2004.


In addition to his responsibilities around the fire station, John is a past president of the Cambria County Fireman?s Association and is a site coordinator for the Cambria County Fire School site.
